When WATER has leaked into an area it does not belong, it is important that you put your safety first. Water can cause short circuits in the electrical system creating a potential for shock and fire. There is also a potential for biological hazards i.e. contaminants, bacteria, collapsing ceilings, walls, etc. Follow these steps:

1. Shut off power supply: supply panels are commonly found on the exterior of the home, in the garage, basement, or utility room.

2. Shut off water supply: Shut off valves are usually found near the house or main water meter. Some valves require the use of a turn-off wrench. If you are not able to find the shut-off or are not able to shut off the water call your local water company or a plumber immediately.

3. Before entering your home or business make sure it is structurally stable. Water can pool in walls and ceilings causing collapse. If you can not determine that it is safe to enter stay out and let a professional make the assessment.
